On the last days of 2014, as we went out of class Indri suggested that we should go and buy cupcakes from Very Cupcake located in Cepa shopping mall. We had previously tried several cupcakes so Indri was already very fond of them. When I asked her what she liked most about the cupcakes she replied “I absolutely love the soft cake and I really really enjoy the very soft and smooth frosting on top of it. It’s so so delicious!” As we went in front of the cupcake display to choose one for purchase Indri chose the one that had a pandas’ face on it. The cupcake has chocolate cake, with vanilla cream filling and vanilla buttercream frosting. She really seemed to enjoy her cute looking cupcake. We also asked the shop about their ingredients and found out that they always use natural things, for instance instead of using vanilla extract they use real vanilla sticks, or (one of my favourites) instead of mint extract they use real mint leaves. We also found out that they had only been open for two years and they already have quite a reputation around the capital city. Currently, Very Cupcake has four places in Ankara, the main shop in Tunali Hilmi another shop in Bahcelievler 7th street and they also have stands in two different malls, one of them being Cepa. One cupcake is 7.50 TL plus they make cupcakes for special events.

IndriIndri is an Indonesian girl who was born in 1996, and she is in her last year in Bilkent University. She moved to Ankara about four years ago due to her fathers job. Since she still lives with her family she has more freedom in terms of money, so together with her we could go to many different cafes and restaurants and record our experiences. Indri and I go to Quick ChinaOn the 25th of November as Indri and I got out of class we decided to go to Quick China with our friends to have lunch there. Quick China offers many different Asian foods including Japanese, Thai and Chinese hence the name. I usually get noodles from there however this time we were all in for sushi. We mostly ate Kyoto California Roll, which is covered with soft rice but has deliciously crunchy shrimps and crab in the middle alongside soft and mild avocados. The sushi, as of tradition, come with a little spoonful of wasabi and pickled ginger. However neither of us are a fan of wasabi, since it is too spicy for us, however it must be good since it is really popular. Indri surely does enjoy sushi as we can see from her messy (definitely a messy plate for sushi) plate. Indri takes several trips to the Cupcake Store! After all the eating we did, Indri enjoys a little shishaIndri and I stop by Marco Pasha, in Cukurambar - Muhsin Yazicioglu Bulvari, to test it out for the sake of my blog, since the place has become a big deal. Marco Pasha has an interesting environment, which several red lights and trees inside, which actually boosts the ambiance for shisha (hookah). The seats are comfortable so you can just relax, lay back, order tea and smoke your sisha, which is rich in taste. Another day, Another placeDuring the weekend we have decided that this time we would eat something that is an American food but has become almost traditional in many countries, including Turkey. A small place, which was opened by my brothers' friend about six months ago, which strictly makes burgers, french fries and one or two types of desserts, mostly tiramisu. We have decided with Indri that this little place in Balgat called Fess Burger is our favourite burger shop. The burgers are an explosion of taste, the meat is both juicy and beautifully spiced, and definitely not hot spicy as we are not a big fan of that. The bread is crunchy on the outside and really soft on the inside, with fresh tomatoes, pickles, lettuce and by option caramelised onions, cheese or even aubergines. This delicious burger is accompanied by crunchy, salty, a little spicy French fries. TimurTimur is from Sarajevo, Bosnia. He was born in 1995. He first moved to Ankara approximately seven years ago with his family. Since he was in high school after class hours he went out with his friends and got to go to many different places. He talks about these in our interview, together with his current favourite place. Here Timur enjoys a hot cup of tea on a cold winter day in Kafes Firin. |
